Hyaluronic Acid – ageing reverser?

There is currently a lot of fuss about this little acid, but can you believe the hype?  Well, while some of the trendy ingredients being bandied about are not that effective, hyaluronic acid’s reputation is completely justified.

Hyaluronic acid (HA for short and also known as hyaluronan or hyaluronate) is not an acid in the same sense as popular ones like salicylic or glycolic, which exfoliate away dead skin cells.  HA is a naturally-occurring polysaccharide that acts as a cushioning and lubrication agent for our joints, nerves, hair, skin and eyes.

About 50% of the HA in our body is located in the skin tissues, it’s a viscose, jelly-like substance that helps keep skin plum, soft and supple.  It fortifies the skins natural barrier layer (the outer layers of our skin), a healthy skin barrier feels softer, smoother and fuller and looks younger.  It also offers protection by releasing antioxidants to prevent damage by free radicals, so an all-round ‘good guy.’

Another truly amazing property of HA is its ability to hold up to 1,000 times its own molecular weight in water.  That's more than any other biological substance!  Think of it as a sponge, drawing in and holding on to water, infusing all layers of the skin with valuable, rejuvenating moisture.  As it fills the skin with moisture, HA tightens the overall complexion, firming facial contours for a more youthful appearance. What's not to love?

Unfortunately for us, the ability to produce HA diminishes with age; resulting in dryness, fine lines and wrinkles and loss of skin tone and sagging.  This explains why skin care companies are developing products rich in synthetically derived HA, which they claim will achieve almost instant results and with continued use will reverse the signs of ageing.

Suitable for all skin types HA’s light texture works particularly well for dry and oily skin.  It is so mild that you can even use it on sensitive skin and as it occurs naturally in the body it’s completely safe to use it in pregnancy or when breastfeeding.   HA is most commonly formulated into serums, it is best applied morning and evening, over the entire face, including eye lids, and don’t forget the neck.  It immediately tightens the skin, and as it is absorbed it starts grabbing onto moisture, plumping out the skin, filling out fine lines for a more youthful complexion.

Personally, I love Crystal Clear Hyaluronic acid, I've been using it every day for 4 months and have seen a visible difference in my skin.  Crystal Clear Hyaluronic Acid is pharmaceutical grade and super high strength serum giving skin the ultimate lift, plump and hydration boost.  Available to buy in salon at £89.99, and is worth every penny.
